We’re proud to share that ONE Rehabilitation Service’s NeuroBOOST program has won Allied Health Innovative Product Excellence at the 2026 Australian Allied Health Awards.
As a South Australian rehabilitation service, it was especially meaningful to celebrate this recognition in Adelaide, alongside allied health professionals from across the country.
This award reflects the thought, teamwork and commitment behind NeuroBOOST and the clients whose goals and experiences continue to shape the program.
A program built around meaningful goals
NeuroBOOST began with a practical question: how could we make intensive arm and hand rehabilitation more accessible to people living in the community after stroke or brain injury?
For someone experiencing difficulty using their arm or hand, everyday activities such as getting dressed, holding a cup or preparing a meal can become challenging. We wanted to create a structured opportunity to practise these skills, guided by individual goals and clinical assessment.
The result was NeuroBOOST: our six-week intensive upper-limb rehabilitation program, combining conventional therapy, rehabilitation technology and individualised practice.
Clients attend three clinic sessions each week, supported by a personalised home exercise program. Sessions use a two-person format, with activities tailored to each person’s abilities, needs and priorities.
Innovation with a purpose
NeuroBOOST incorporates rehabilitation technology alongside conventional upper-limb therapy. Interactive activities and game-based exercises provide different ways to practise movements such as reaching, grasping and coordinating the arm and hand.
Our occupational therapists and physiotherapists select and adapt activities, monitor each person’s response and connect practice with their individual goals.
For one person, the focus might be using cutlery. For another, it might be managing clothing or working towards a favourite hobby. These priorities guide the selection of activities throughout the program.
Keeping meaningful outcomes at the centre
Before the program begins, our clinicians assess arm and hand function and work with each client to identify individual goals. We repeat assessments at the end of the six weeks and provide a report outlining progress and recommendations.
This process helps us review changes over the program, discuss them with clients and their families, and plan appropriate next steps. Each person’s circumstances and response to rehabilitation are considered individually.
We have also collaborated with the University of South Australia on a feasibility study examining NeuroBOOST in a community setting. Evaluating our service helps us learn, refine our approach and identify areas for further research.
The award is a welcome recognition of the program’s development. Our ongoing focus remains individualised care, careful evaluation and supporting clients to work towards their own goals.
Thank you to the people behind NeuroBOOST
We’re grateful to the clinicians who have helped develop, deliver and refine NeuroBOOST, and to our research collaborators for supporting its evaluation.
Above all, thank you to our clients and their families for the trust they place in our team. Your goals, participation and feedback help us understand what matters and how we can continue to improve our service.
Receiving this award is a special moment for ONE Rehabilitation Service. We’re proud to see a program developed here in South Australia recognised on a national stage.
